How it works

How the NATGAS perpetual works

Henry Hub is the main US benchmark for natural gas prices. Hyperliquid lists NATGAS through HIP-3, which lets independent builders add markets to its order book. This one is run by the xyz builder and settles in USDC.

On weekdays the main natural gas markets trade almost around the clock, and an oracle feeds their price to NATGAS. From Friday evening to Sunday evening, New York time, they are shut. NATGAS keeps trading, so news that breaks at the weekend moves this price first, and the main natural gas markets can reopen away from Friday's close. Once they reopen, funding pulls the perp back toward their price.

Funding is paid every hour between longs and shorts. When NATGAS trades above its reference price, longs pay shorts; below it, shorts pay longs. The rate for the next payment is in the live numbers above, and it adds up over a hold of several days.

FAQ

NATGAS questions

What does NATGAS on Hyperliquid track?

The US dollar price of one MMBtu of Henry Hub natural gas. It is a perpetual contract, so there is no expiry and no delivery. Longs and shorts pay each other funding every hour, which keeps the price close to the natural gas price.

What leverage is available?

How is funding calculated for NATGAS on Hyperliquid?

Funding is computed from the gap between the perpetual price and an oracle reference: when the perp trades above the oracle, longs pay shorts; below, shorts pay longs. Hyperliquid settles funding every hour, on HIP-3 markets as on its core perps, and the rate for the next payment is in the live numbers on this page. The hourly rate is small but adds up over multi-day holds.

When can I trade — 24/7 or market hours only?

Hyperliquid perpetuals trade 24/7. Off-hours (overnight, weekends, holidays), the perp may diverge from the underlying spot price since traditional markets are closed and price discovery happens here. Funding pulls the perp back toward the oracle over time.

Is this self-custodial?

Yes. You connect a wallet (e.g. via Hyperliquid’s native UI or a builder app); keys never leave your control. Hyperliquid is a non-custodial exchange.
